‘The First Full Moon of 2009′
In December of 2008, we ended the year with a larger and brighter Full Moon than normal; this point of closer approach, where the Moon ellipses closer to Earth than average is called a perigee Full Moon. The first Full Moon of the New Year this January is yet another perigee Full Moon; hence, we are beginning 2009 with a similar Full Moon to how we ended 2008. This is very interesting.
In the United States we will witness the Full Moon Saturday, January 10 2009, in Australia on Sunday, January 11 2009. If you read my December 2008 post around the Full Moon, you will definitely want to watch for this Full Moon in the sky, as it will be full of magic once again! January’s Full Moon, traditionally, is the ‘Full Wolf Moon’; yet, sometimes it has been called the ‘Old Moon’, or ‘The Moon after Yule’. Sometimes called the ‘Full Snow Moon’, but this is usually reserved for the cold February Moon. Some other interesting lore about Winter Full Moons from the Old Farmer’s Almanac are cold snaps with a winter Full Moon, and I have found for days now the weather has certainly become frigid here. Overnight the snow blankets the ground, and the sky bears heavy clouds here. New Moons and Full Moons are to bring rain or storm weather; A Christmas Full Moon predicts a poor harvest season.
